Chris Brown Facing Jail Time

The skis may be sunny in LA, but in Chris Brown’s world, they are a depressing shade of grey. Chris Brown faces felony battery charges against girlfriend Rihanna, if convicted he could receive over 4 years in Federal Prison.

I actually and very disgusted with the entire story. I am appalled at both of the stars, but, as a woman, mostly Rihanna. Now mind you, I don’t know the story more than you do, which is the heart of the problem…no one knows what happened… no one is speaking up… which leaves the media to do what they do best, which is speculate. And I truly believe that the media speculation is much worse than coming out with the truth.

My biggest problem with this situation is the message that Rihanna is sending (intentionally or unintentionally) by not speaking out and going back to him.

As a woman (who was actually taught about self confidence) it was explained to me that when a man hits you, FOR ANY REASON, you leave. You turn around, walk away and DO NOT LOOK BACK.

There is no excuse for a man to put his hands on a woman in anger. With one swipe of his fists, he could easily kill her. No man’s love or approval is worth being killed over.

I just worry about what kind of message is Rihanna sending to her young, impressionable fans? Some news coverage that I have heard is that she is staying with him for fear of what it will do to his career if she leaves. I say, screw that…what will it do to her life if she stays with him? As for each of their careers, I will never support either of them again. I am disgusted with the way this situation has been handled and feel that she is not taking her position as a public figure seriously.

Whether she likes it or not, there are women out there in the same or worse situation as her, she has an opportunity to possibly reach someone. But the way she is handling it, is probably only helping her abuser.

Rocket Launch Video

Last night the Delta II Rocket carrying NASA’s Kepler spacecraft was successfully launched. Kepler’s mission is to check out a patch of space for at least three-and-a-half years, looking for rocky planets similar Earth. It was the most beautiful launch that I have ever seen due to the clear sky. You could actually see the colors change as it jetted towards space. AT EXACTLY 1 MIN. INTO THE VIDEO YOU CAN SEE THE FLASH OF LIGHT THAT IS THE BOOSTERS DETACHING FROM THE ROCKET, AND THEN YOU CAN SEE THE FLARES FALLING BACK TO EARTH.

Fire in Cocoa Beach

So this morning, like most mornings for me I was up and driving towards Patrick Air Force base around 6:30am from my home in S. Cocoa Beach, however this morning was slightly different. I passed two fire fighters crossing A1A to head to the Ocean. These two young men were in fire protection gear minus their jackets. About 50 yards down the road, blocked by a house was the fire engine. Courious I wondered what had happened last night…. it was fleeting thought, because my brain tend to try to think positly, I usually just dismiss it as, “oh I am sure that it is fine, probably just a false alarm.” Unforutnatly this was no false alarm.

Around 3:45am Ocean Sports World owner, Roy Scafidi, awoke to find his bedroom engulfed in flames and flames throughout his house. He yelled to his wife to get their two daughters and the family managed to escape with seconds to spare.

The house, however is a total loss. The condo building an other surrounding structures substained minor smoke and fire damage. The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical, however the house just passed a 4 point inspection two weeks ago.

It is estimated that the fire caused over $200,000 worth of damages.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Roy and his family. And my thanks goes to God, who did not take any human life in this fire.

UPDATE: Florida Surfing License Plate

This Just In:

The bill to form the first surfing license plate in Florida (HB-49) to support the East Coast Surfing Hall of Fame went before politicians today and passed. This does not mean that we are in the clear, however this is a huge step in the right direction for a continuous funding source to preserve the heritage of east coast surfing. The committee will now report on the passed bill and read it in open session of the House, and the bill is then referred to the Rules Committee. At least that is what I can tell from my research of the processes of a house bill. (Hey, lay off I didn’t get to watch the bill song from school house rocks when I was a kid!) So all in all, it was a good day for HB-49. I will keep you posted!

And a big THANK YOU is in order to all of you who showed your support to HB-49 by placing calls and voicing your opinion! Everyone appreciates your support!
